Solar Quotation Generator

Build a clean quote for a customer, with your logo and terms, and download it as a PDF.

A good quote answers the customer’s first questions before they ask them: what they’re getting, what it costs, when the price runs out and how they pay. This tool turns those details into a clean PDF you can send.

It’s for installers, sales reps and freelance designers who write a few quotes a month and don’t want to set up proposal software for them. Add your company, the customer and your line items. The tool adds up the totals, tax and deposit and builds the PDF in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and there’s no account.

This tool builds a document from what you type. It does not check prices, tax or legal terms, and the quote it makes is not a contract. Data as of October 2026.

How this tool works

What goes in the PDF

The quote carries your logo, company name and contact details, the customer and the site address, a quote number and a date. A valid-until date is counted from the quote date. Below that come your line items with quantity, unit price and amount, then the subtotal, any discount, sales tax, the total and the deposit. If you enter the system size in kW, it also shows the price per watt before tax. Payment terms and scope notes come last, with a line saying the quote isn’t a contract.

How the numbers are worked out

Each line is quantity times unit price, and the subtotal is the sum of the lines. A discount comes off the subtotal, then sales tax is charged on what’s left. The deposit is a percentage of the total, and the balance is the rest. Take 21 panels at $250, a $1,800 inverter and $3,200 of labor. The subtotal is $10,250. A $500 discount brings it to $9,750, and 8.25% tax adds $804.38, so the total is $10,554.38.

Tip: say what the price doesn’t cover. Roof repairs, a main panel upgrade and trenching are easy to leave out of the scope and expensive to argue about later. The notes box is the place for them, along with the warranty terms and any roof assumptions.

The Solar Installation Profit Calculator shows what a job earns you before you send the quote. The Solar Cost Calculator shows what homes in the customer’s state have paid.

What it doesn’t do

  • It doesn’t save quotes on Solar YP or email them. The last quote you typed stays in this browser on this device, and the PDF is the only output.
  • It isn’t a contract. The PDF says so. Use your own contract for the signed agreement.
  • It doesn’t work out incentives or tax rules. Type in the sales tax rate you use, and add a rebate as a line with a negative price.
  • It prints Latin letters only. Accented letters are fine. Characters from other alphabets, such as Arabic or Chinese, show as question marks in the PDF.

Questions

Is the quote a legal contract?

No, and the PDF says so. It’s a priced offer. A binding agreement needs a written contract that both sides sign, and your state’s licensing rules may say what that contract must contain.

Does the tool save my quotes?

Only in your own browser, on this device, so your last quote is there when you come back. Nothing goes to our servers. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, it’s gone. The Clear all entries button wipes it too.

Can I add my logo?

Yes. Upload a PNG or JPG. The tool shrinks it, keeps it in your browser and prints it on the PDF. It’s never uploaded.

How do I add a discount or an incentive?

Use the discount box for a dollar discount. For a rebate or incentive, add a line with a negative price, such as -2000, and name it.

How is the valid-until date set?

It’s the quote date plus the number of days you enter. If you leave the date blank, the tool uses today.

What does price per watt show?

The price after any discount and before tax, divided by the system size in watts. Enter the size in kW to see it. It helps you check the quote against the state prices in the Solar Cost Calculator.

Can I download the quote as a Word or Excel file?

No. The PDF is the only download.
